Mashu is a handbag brand making vegan, sustainable arm candy. Rooted in the founder’s Greek heritage, every Mashu bag marries shapes and textures found in forests and beaches, Cycladic Mediterranean architecture and natural materials reclaimed from local artisans. Their mission is to challenge traditional luxury fashion standards with their belief that style doesn’t have to cost the earth.
Mashu launched in 2017 with a visionary but limited identity —while the overall aesthetic felt distinct, there was no consistent brand system that tied everything together. Since launch, the brand had evolved from a fledgling start up to being recognised across the fashion industry, appearing at Paris & London Fashion Week and being featured in media like Vogue, Forbes and Harper’s Bazaar.
The rebrand elevates Mashu into a mature and established brand, without sacrificing the playful and disruptive attitude that made it successful. With a heavy nod towards the natural and architectural forms, colours and textures found in Greece, as well as the local artisans Mashu’s bags are crafted by, the new brand feels distinctly local but globally resonant.
The new website carries Mashu’s fresh identity with a clearer messaging system that places sustainability at the heart of the brand story. The signature ric-rac ‘squiggle’ was refined and woven throughout the design to add a sense of play and texture to an otherwise straight-laced luxury world.
